How Procrastination Almost Killed My Tech Dreams

I’ve always wanted to work in tech. Ever since I built my first (terrible) website as a teenager, I knew coding was my thing. But there was one problem, me.

I was the queen of "I’ll start tomorrow." I’d bookmark coding tutorials, join online courses, and then… binge Netflix instead. Months turned into years, and my dream of becoming a developer stayed just that, a dream. Meanwhile, friends who started learning after me were already landing jobs. The guilt was real.

The Wake-Up Call That Hurt

One day, a friend messaged me: "Hey, just got my first dev job!" I was happy for him, but also crushed. That could’ve been me.

I had wasted so much time waiting for the "perfect moment." But here’s the truth: there’s no perfect moment. There’s only now, and the regret of not starting sooner.

The Turning Point: No More Excuses

I decided enough was enough. I deleted my excuses (and a few distracting apps). I committed to coding every single day, even if it was just for 30 minutes. Some days were frustrating. I’d stare at my screen, convinced I’d never understand PHP. But I kept going.

Then, I discovered WordPress. The flexibility, the community, the demand, it clicked. I built ugly sites at first (sorry, early clients), but with each project, I improved.

From Procrastinator to Professional

Fast-forward to today: I’m a WordPress developer. The same hands that once scrolled mindlessly now build websites for clients. The same brain that said "I can’t" now solves coding problems daily.

If you’re stuck in the procrastination loop, here’s what I learned:

  • Start before you’re "ready.": You’ll figure it out along the way.

  • Progress > perfection: My first site was a disaster and that’s okay.

  • Consistency beats motivation: Show up even when you don’t feel like it.

Your Turn

If I, a chronic procrastinator, could turn things around, so can you. Tech isn’t waiting for you to be perfect. It’s waiting for you to start.

So, what’s your first step today?

(P.S. If I can help in any way—ask in the comments! Let’s break the procrastination cycle together.)
